The ATP program is the best possible choice when pursuing a professional pilot career. Having been on the airline side now, I have come to appreciate ATP’s standardization and curriculum even more than just a high standard for safe and effective training. Airline training material, procedures, checklists, all feel and look familiar, and it makes the transition from the Seminole to the ERJ, of all things, comfortable. The skills I developed as an ATP student and instructor have translated directly to the skills required in the crew environment at an airline. The training I received from David Thompson and Todd Shellnutt in the LZU CFI program in October of 2016 was top notch, and inspirational. The reputation and network ATP has established with the regional airlines is what landed my job at Piedmont, I was interviewed in the Las Vegas ATP training center at 600 hours total time. The ATP CTP course in Dallas was an excellent introduction to jet operations and the airline world. My simulator instructor Kelvin King was excellent.
My time with ATP as a student and instructor is an experience I look back on fondly. My first flight was July 11, 2016 as a credit for private student, and my hire date with Piedmont was August 6, 2018. I was an instructor for 17 months which is exactly what I expected. The timing was ideal and the cost of the program well worth it. I have flown and rented airplanes from other schools and companies, ATP airplanes were always in the best shape and most thoroughly maintained. I took pride in sharing that information with intro flights and training center tours. To this day I regularly stay in touch with students who were my primary students and students I flew with from the CFI program in Las Vegas.
