Republic continues to expand through turbulent economic times. Over the last year Republic has made multi-million dollar investments in US Airways, Frontier Airlines and Midwest Express Airlines. They then entered into an agreement with Hawaii’s Mokulele Airlines to provide jet service to the islands, and additionally made a large cash investment in them.
Today, Indianapolis-based Republic Airways became a 50 percent owner of Hawaii's Mokulele Airlines. Republic CEO Bryan Bedford said the further investment in Mokulele supports the company's position that "the local Hawaiian community needs convenient, affordable air service between neighboring islands."
"They shouldn’t have to sacrifice comfort or value for their daily air service needs,” Bedford said. “Republic's investment in Mokulele gives it greater financial strength and positions it to compete effectively and continue to grow its expanding base of loyal customers."
Mokulele also announced that Republic Airways Vice President for Strategic Alliances, Scott Durgin, will serve as interim President and CEO while the company conducts a search for a new senior executive to help build the airline’s senior management team.
