Mesa Airlines, which was first to partner with ATP in the Tuition Reimbursement Program, announced that United Airlines has agreed to add 15 additional Embraer 175 aircraft to Mesa’s fleet flown for United Airlines as United Express. The fleet additions mean that over 150 additional First Officers will be hired, and over 75 current First Officers will upgrade to Captains to operate these new planes.
Mesa currently flies 30 E-Jets for United Airlines, as well as 20 CRJ700 aircraft under the United Express brand.
“We are very pleased to expand our relationship with United with the addition of these 15 new Embraer E175 jets,” said Chairman and CEO Jonathan Ornstein. “Mesa has proven itself as a quality operator of this aircraft type in terms of customer satisfaction and is competitive in terms of cost efficiency. The combination of these two attributes has made Mesa the fastest growing airline in the world over the last three years and will continue to fuel our growth into the future.”
Mesa Airlines has been very active in recruiting pilots who have graduated from ATP’s Airline Career Pilot Program for years, and many of those recruits have upgraded to Captains on both the CRJ700/900 and the E175. There are ATP Graduates in almost every new-hire class at Mesa, and many have come into the airline industry because of Mesa’s proactive participation in the Tuition Reimbursement Program at ATP.
