In the latest expansion of the US Airline Industry, Hawaiian Airlines announced Thursday it has ordered five more Airbus A330 aircraft to be completed within the next four years.
The order, worth $1 billion at list prices, takes Hawaiian's commitments for A330 planes to 22, including four under lease. It currently operates five A330s, Airbus said. The A330s are slated to be delivered sometime between 2013 and 2015.
This will bring Hawaiian Airlines' total order of that aircraft to 13.
The airline says it has been meeting an increased demand for service to Honolulu from other cities. The A330 aircraft will be used for flights between New York City and Honolulu beginning June 5, 2012.
"Adding these additional A330-200s to our fleet over the next four years will support the continued expansion of our network and replacement of our current 767-300s," airline CEO Mark Dunkerley said.
