I was told by the Dan Robertson, Manager of Pilot Recruiting at ExpressJet, yesterday that they are going to continue interviewing pilots but that they had met their recruiting goals for now and probably wouldn’t be running any more New-hire training classes in the immediate future.
Captain Robertson has been in the airline business for a long time so he added the caveat, “of course, that could change at a moment’s notice.”
Finally he added, “I think this is just the calm before the storm as we are in the early stages of the biggest airline hiring spree ever in America. There will be 17,229 major airline pilots retiring due to age 65 in the next 10 years.”
It sounds like Captain Robertson will be busy for a long time.
