Recruiters had been speaking before the job fair began about the lack of qualified pilots available to the Airline Industry now, and shared concerned looks as they spoke about the upcoming surge of experienced airline pilots who will be forced to retire as they reach the age of 65 beginning in December of this year.
FAPA.Aero did the usual exceptional job of organizing and running the Job Fair, having each airline give presentations in a separate meeting room while the Fair was running. I attended several of these airline presentations and they were all interesting and very informative, giving potential recruits a chance to hear specifics about each airline’s future plans and details about what it would be like to work for them. Each presentation allowed pilots to ask specific questions of airline recruiters, and many pilots took advantage of the opportunity.
Anyone attending this job fair was reminded of the building demand for new airline pilots that is being created by these growing airlines. It is reported that the Major Airlines will begin hiring in earnest toward the end of this year, which will make the demand further outstrip the supply of trained pilots. Anyone interested in training as a pilot can rest assured that a job will be waiting for them once they are finished.

I attended FAPA’s (formerly FltOps.com) Regional Job Fair in Boston last Saturday. Regional Airlines who were there hoping to recruit pilots were SkyWest Airlines, Republic Airlines, ExpressJet Airlines, PSA Airlines, Trans States Airlines, Compass Airlines and American Eagle.
