Compass Airlines has been awarded 20 more Embraer 175 aircraft by American Airlines to be flown under the American Eagle brand. Compass has announced that it expects to start flying the new E175s right after the start of 2015.
The new aircraft further swell the overall Regional Airline fleet, and this is where the pilot shortage exists. The regional airline industry is in tremendous need of newly trained pilots to come into the industry, offering career opportunities to those willing to enter flight training now to meet those opportunities.
American Airlines reported last December that it had placed an order with Embraer for 60 new E175s, 40 of which will be placed with Republic Airlines. American also has options to buy another 90 jets from Embraer.
The new E175s being placed at Compass will increase their fleet to 62 E-Jets. It now flies 36 E175s and six E170s for its former owner, Delta Air Lines, from hubs in Minneapolis and Detroit.
