For April, traffic grew by 8.1 percent to more than 1.6 billion RPMs and the airline's load factor for the month was 81.9 percent. The airline enplaned more than 2 million passengers for the month, a 4.2 percent increase from April, 2009.

AirTran reported that the 1.64 billion revenue passenger miles, or one passenger flown one mile, in April was up from 1.51 billion in April 2009.

Capacity rose 6.1 percent to almost 2 billion available seat miles, from 1.88 billion a year earlier.

Because traffic rose faster than capacity, occupancy on AirTran planes -- called load factor -- rose 1.5 percentage points, to 81.9 percent.

For the first four months of the year, traffic rose 7.6 percent to 6.03 billion revenue passenger miles. Capacity rose 6.1 percent to 7.68 billion available seat miles. Load factor rose 1.2 percentage points to 78.5 percent.
