AirTran November traffic rises 10.5 percent

AirTran Airways said on Wednesday that its November traffic jumped 10.5 percent from a year earlier, and it increased the amount of flying it does to keep pace according to the Associated Press.


The subsidiary of AirTran Holdings Inc. said it flew 1.47 billion revenue passenger miles, or one paying passenger flown one mile, in November. That was up from 1.33 billion revenue passenger miles flown in November 2008.

Capacity rose 9.2 percent to 1.92 billion available seat miles, from 1.76 billion a year earlier.

And AirTran's planes were fuller than a year ago, with occupancy rising 0.9 percentage points to 76.7 percent.

For the first 11 months of the year, AirTran traffic has fallen 2.5 percent to 17.05 billion revenue passenger miles. Capacity is down 3 percent to 21.32 billion available seat miles. Occupancy has risen 0.4 percentage points to 80 percent.
