The two day job fair began on Friday when hundreds of pilots arrived to meet and speak with recruiters from United and US Airways. Although there were long lines waiting to speak to the recruiters at times, nobody left without a chance to shake hands, introduce themselves and hopefully make a great initial impression on the people who can help them get a job flying for the airlines.
Recruiters from Direct Personnel International were in attendance also recruiting pilots to fly overseas for Vietnam Airlines, Korean Air, Air China Cargo, Capital Air, Okay Airways, Tiger Airways and Air Astana. These recruiters collected a lot of resumes also and it was easy to see that foreign airlines will continue to recruit pilots from the U.S., bringing thousands additional pilots to their countries under lucrative contracts.
The Job Fair continued on Saturday with recruiters from SkyWest, ExpressJet, Compass and Cape Air arriving to meet the potential pilots arriving to speak with them. I personally enjoyed seeing American Eagle return to Atlanta in the role of actively recruiting pilots once again. The regional side of the job fair was very well attended also with a few hundred pilots eager to begin their airline careers and ride the wave of pilot hiring that is growing every day.
There were also about a hundred young people there responding to the growing buzz about the developing pilot shortage and seeking knowledge about how to become airline pilots. I can tell you that among the young people that I met and spoke with were some very intelligent and motivated people who will make up the future generation of pilots seeking to fly for the airlines. The airlines need more like them to join the industry.
As usual, Louis Smith and Vide President Judy Tarver and their FAPA.Aero crew put on a superb event which allowed both recruiters and pilots to meet in a very well prepared and well arranged setting with no distractions. A good time was had by all.
